Whaea Nicky

Kia Ora,

My name is Whaea Nicky. I have been lucky enough to be working at the best school in Rotorua, Western Heights Primary, for the past 9 years. I have taught in all year groups during this time. Last year I gave up full time work at our Kura to help look after our moko. I now do release for our new teachers, senior teachers, and also work in Room 21 once a week. I am also the staff rep on the Board of Trustees. This has been a great experience for me to see more of the hard work that happens behind the scenes of our school, as well as having the opportunity to share staff input, parent feedback and other ideas with the board members.

I am a born and bred Rotorua girl. I lived and attended all of my schooling in the Heights area. I went to Selwyn Primary, Kaitao Intermediate, and Western Heights High School. After working in the financial industry for 16 years I decided on a career change and studied for my teaching degree via distance through The University of Canterbury.

I have three children that I am very proud of. My oldest is a teacher here at WHPS (Whaea Tayla), my son Jesse is in the NZ Navy, and my youngest son Koby attends WHHS. We are a very sport focused family. I have managed rugby teams since my boys were little and have also been fortunate enough to travel overseas a number of times with WHHS 1st XV.

Ko te ahurei o te tamaiti ārahia o tātou mahi – let the uniqueness of the child guide us in our mahi.
